How to do the Assignments steps on My Day: open an assignment, add the records you found and submit it for the access officer's decision.

Get Started: Assignments for Custodians
The Assignments topic on My Day is for custodians, the people who hold the records for a business area. An access officer asks you to search; you gather what you find and send it back.
Open an assignment
Select the Assignments tab, or an assignment on My Day. Each card shows the request number, status, priority and due date. Click it to open the assignment. You see instructions, keywords, scope dates and information categories, but never the requestor's name or e-mail.
Attach a record
- On the Details tab, use Add repository to note each place you will search, such as a SharePoint site, file share or mailbox.
- On the Documents tab, add the records you found. Every record arrives marked Responsive. Change it to Not responsive or Duplicate when that is the case.
- If someone else holds records, use Add task on the Tasks tab to ask a contributor.
Submit the assignment
Complete the Attestation tab, which certifies your search is complete, and submit. If your organization has turned the attestation off, the tab is called Submit. The assignment moves to Awaiting approval. The access officer then approves it or requests changes, and a returned assignment shows under Needs action. Every task must be completed or cancelled before you submit.
Guide me, Practise and Mark complete
Each step in the Get started group on My Day has one main action and two icons.
- Guide me (the training icon) highlights the real control on the real screen in at most four short steps. The control stays usable, Tab reaches it, and Escape closes the tour. Guide me never opens a case for you. See Guide me.
- Practise appears on steps that have a training case. It opens train mode, where you work on fictional cases and nothing is sent, delivered or published. See Train mode.
- ? opens this page. Mark complete ticks the step when you have already done it another way.
A step ticks itself when you do it for real. Practising in train mode ticks only the Practise steps. For the whole group, see Get Started.
